JORGE FERNANDEZ FILES FOR ALLEN COUNTY COUNCIL-AT-LARGE
FORT WAYNE, IN, January 22, 2024 – Today Jorge Fernandez filed to run for Allen County Council At-large. He stated the following regarding his run:
One of the current three at-large Allen County council members has been inconsistent in opposition for an ill-thought out and ill-advised jail financing plan. It would be beneficial for Allen County to have a county fiscal body in county council that reliably acts as a check and balance against wasteful and unnecessary spending in county government and I can be part of that check and balance. I also want to take a more comprehensive view to the problems with the criminal justice system. Affordable housing might help to reduce problems with recidivism in criminal justice system. and if elected to county council, I intend to take advantage of state powers seemingly allocated to the county fiscal body to establish a countywide housing authority. Affordable housing is not simply a Fort Wayne only problem in Allen County and I don’t see any reason not to take a more countywide approach to the issue. How much potential Federal money is Allen County leaving on the table because it doesn’t have a housing authority that includes areas outside Fort Wayne?
Jorge Fernandez is an educator. He has worked as a teacher in several Indiana public school districts. He has experience working in middle school and high school settings and tutoring students of many ages up to the college level. He graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree in Chemistry Education from Taylor University and has lived in Allen County since graduation.
Jorge Fernandez will be seeking a Democratic nomination spot for one of three Allen County Council seats.
